Fifth seed Hubert Hurkacz is into the Chengdu Open semifinals after holding off Lloyd Harris in one hour and 55 minutes. Harris, the South African ranked ATP No. 136 who began the season at No. 220, had reached the last eight without dropping a set, including a round-of-16 win over Valentin Vacherot. Serve governed most of it. The two combined for 25 aces, and Hurkacz held nine of his ten service games. He broke in game 2 of the opening set, Harris broke back in game 5, and the tiebreak that followed ran to 12-10 before Hurkacz closed it. The second set turned on a break in its opening game. Harris created seven break points afterwards and converted none of them; across the match Hurkacz saved seven of eight. Hurkacz has dropped one set this week, to Martin Damm in the round of 16.
