How contests work

  1. 01

    Format

Build a salary-cap roster of ATP & WTA pros and take on the field.

Every player has a price — fit your roster under the cap. Play one event at a time (fresh slate and prices each tournament) or enter a season-long contest where one roster carries across tournaments, scored cumulatively.

    Lineup Builder

A priced player pool with the tennis data inline.

Pricing is surface- and tournament-aware, not name recognition. Surface win rates, head-to-heads, and recent form sit right in the builder — you can build a lineup on any open contest before signing up.

    Follow Live

    Follow every match live, point-by-point.

Live scores on every ATP and WTA match, with pre-match and in-match win probability that swings rally by rally. Your lineup's Score updates as results land, round by round. Every prediction is graded against the closing line.

    Leaderboard

One table against the whole field.

Contest standings update live as matches play — climb through every round and hold the top spot when the event (or season) ends. Every entrant scores from the same engine, so the table settles on results, not luck of the draw.

Scoring

How contest scoring works.

Every player has a price and earns points by advancing; each contest sets its own scoring table, budget, and bonuses.

Salary-cap fantasy contests run on real tour events — from Grand Slams down to the 500s and 250s a contest includes — single tournament or multi-tournament. There's no draft and no commissioner: every player has a price, and you build a roster under the budget. Two entry modes:

Set & Forget contests

One-and-done DFS contests. Your lineup locks at the entry deadline and rides through the whole contest.

Lineups lock at the entry deadline. Once locked, injuries and price changes don't affect what scores.

Submit multiple entries up to the per-user cap. Each entry ranks independently.

Prices lock once the first tournament starts.

Active contests

Persistent fantasy rosters. Prices move daily, and you can drop and add players between tournaments.

Prices move daily based on which players are getting added vs. dropped — the more popular a player gets, the more their price goes up.

Drops refund part of the original price (the sellback rate). The rest is friction, so churning players costs you budget.

Lineups lock during live play. The lock lifts between tournaments once the next draw and price refresh are in.

Strategy is which players to ride and when to take the sellback hit.

Frequently asked questions

A salary-cap contest is a head-to-the-field game where you build a roster of ATP and WTA pros under a fixed budget. Each player has a fantasy price derived from recent form, ranking, and tournament-specific surface fit. Your players score fantasy points based on real match results, as well as bonus points for upsets, aces, and breaks of serve.

Prices are calculated per tournament from recent results, surface history, tournament identity, and ranking. A clay specialist costs more for Roland Garros than for Wimbledon, and injured players price low until they return. Prices update as tournaments approach.

Active contests let you swap players in your lineup between tournaments in a multi-event contest. Set-and-forget contests lock your lineup at the start of the contest with no swaps. Within any single tournament, rosters are always locked once play begins.

Yes. All contests on The Drop Shot are free to enter. There are no entry fees and no cash prizes — contests run for league standings and bragging rights.

Contests run across the ATP and WTA tours — Grand Slams, Masters, and ATP/WTA 500s and 250s — as single-tournament or multi-tournament events. Live scores, draws, and results update in real time.

Your players earn fantasy points for advancing through the bracket, with bonus points for upsets, aces, and breaks of serve. Each contest carries its own scoring table, so the same player can be worth a different amount across contests.

Every match carries a pre-match prediction and live win probability that updates point-by-point during play — a free account unlocks the model's pick and the live probability. We grade every prediction against the sportsbook closing line and publish the results by surface, tour, and round at /predictions/accuracy.
