·500·HardKyrian Jacquet defeated Luciano Darderi 6-3, 7(7)-6(5) — Japan Open 2026 R16.
Kyrian Jacquet and Luciano Darderi: Kyrian Jacquet leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.
Kyrian Jacquet upset Luciano Darderi in straight sets to reach the Japan Open quarterfinals, never facing a break point in the match. The 25-year-old Frenchman is ranked 86th, 67 places below Darderi, though the betting market had made the Italian only a narrow favorite, at 55 percent. Jacquet's only break came in the sixth game, for a 4-2 first-set lead. Darderi saved the other five break points he faced, including three in a second set that reached a tiebreak without a break of serve. He also saved a match point in that set, but Jacquet won the tiebreak 7-5. Jacquet lost only three of his 37 first-serve points, a 92 percent rate compared with 73.5 percent across his season. Ten of his 15 aces came in the second set. The win is Jacquet's fifth in six matches. That stretch covers his run to the semifinals of the Hangzhou Open, his previous event, and a first-round win here over Holger Rune. Darderi is the highest-ranked opponent Jacquet has beaten in his matches on record; the previous high was No. 30 Tomas Martin Etcheverry, whom he beat in Hangzhou. Jacquet, who began the season at ATP No. 136, next plays Jaume Munar, ranked 64th, in the quarterfinals.
