Jaume Munar reached the semifinals of the ATP 500 Japan Open with a straight-sets win over Kyrian Jacquet, holding all nine of his service games. The Spaniard, ranked ATP No. 64, opened his Tokyo run by coming from a set down to beat ATP No. 12 Taylor Fritz. Jacquet, a Frenchman at ATP No. 86, had won five of his previous six matches. He reached the Hangzhou Open semifinals, then dropped only four games against Holger Rune and defeated Luciano Darderi in Tokyo. The first set's only break came in game 7, when Munar moved ahead 4-3. Jacquet had three break points in that set and converted none. Munar broke twice more in the second set, for 2-1 and 5-2, before serving out the match.
