Kyrian Jacquet vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry — R16 — Hangzhou Open

Kyrian Jacquet, ranked ATP No. 107, beat third seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry in straight sets in the Hangzhou Open round of 16. The betting market at WilliamHill had favored Etcheverry, ATP No. 30, at 59 percent. He had a first-round bye at the ATP 250, so this was his opening match of the week and his first since the US Open round of 16 on Sept. 6. Jacquet broke in game 2 for 2-0 and again in game 8 to take the first set 6-2, winning 87 percent of his first-serve points in that set. Etcheverry's only break of the match came in game 5 of the second, for 3-2. Jacquet broke back in the next game for 3-3, broke again in game 8 for 5-3, and closed it out after Etcheverry saved one match point. Etcheverry held four of his eight service games. Jacquet lost serve once in nine and hit seven aces, though the return does the heavier work in his game: he has won 35.3 percent of return points this season. A 25-year-old from Lyon who reached the top 110 through Challenger tennis and is still without a tour-level title, Jacquet had needed three sets to get past Aleksandar Vukic in the first round. Two wins later, he is in the quarterfinals at 4-7 for the season.
