The gains have stopped short of the rankings. A Wimbledon round of 16 and a Mallorca quarterfinal carried the season record to 8-12, but Dimitrov sits at ATP No. 138 from a No. 47 January and a No. 42 peak.
Back from a leg injury, he took the Cincinnati opener 6-1 with breaks in games 4, 6 and 7 and won the point count 79-74, then lost to Sebastian Baez on seven double faults, four of them in the third set.
That is one win in his last four, and holding 80 percent of his service games won't lift a 35-year-old off 138.

He had reached the Paris Masters final the previous autumn, and later in 2024 made the quarterfinals at both the French Open and the US Open. He was back in the semifinals at Miami in 2025.

Wimbledon was the exception. At 35 he beat Jakub Mensik in four sets and Matteo Berrettini in five to reach the fourth round, where Arthur Fery took a final-set tiebreak. A leg injury recorded in early August 2026 carried an expected return date of Aug. 11, and he was playing again at the Cincinnati Open three days later, losing his opening match there and again at the US Open at the end of the month.
