Hugo Gaston defeated Jaime Faria 4-6, 7(7)-6(5), 6-4 — Hangzhou Open 2026 R16.

Jaime Faria and Hugo Gaston: Hugo Gaston leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.

Hugo Gaston, ranked ATP No. 97, beat seventh seed Jaime Faria in the round of 16 at the Hangzhou Open, losing the opening set before taking the next two in a match that ran 2 hours 46 minutes. The betting market favored Faria, ATP No. 68, at 63%. Faria broke in the opening game and again in game 10 to take the first set 6-4; Gaston created five break points along the way and converted none. Neither man was broken in the second set, which Gaston won 7-6(5). He broke once more in game 5 of the third for 3-2, and Faria did not reach a break point in the set. Faria hit 11 aces to Gaston's three but landed only half of his first serves, and he won 46% of his second-serve points against Gaston's 59%. Three of his six double faults came in the deciding set. Gaston took 104 of the 204 points played. The two had no prior meetings on record. Gaston, a left-hander from Toulouse, had opened the week by beating Sho Shimabukuro in straight sets, and his last match before Hangzhou was a first-round loss at the US Open in August. He reached the semifinals at the Estoril Open in July. Faria had needed three sets to get past Terence Atmane in the previous round.
