Sho Shimabukuro and Hugo Gaston: Hugo Gaston leads 2–0 across 2 recorded meetings.
Hugo Gaston won his opening match at the Hangzhou Open, beating Sho Shimabukuro 6-4, 6-4 in the round of 32. It was his first match since a first-round loss to Daniil Medvedev at the US Open in August. Gaston, ATP No. 101, broke for 3-2 in each set and took the first with a second break in game 10. Shimabukuro, five places higher at ATP No. 96, broke back for 3-3 in the second, his only break of the match. Gaston broke again in game nine for 5-4, then served out the match after Shimabukuro saved a match point. Little separated them across 121 points, 63-58 to Gaston, who converted three of his six break points to Shimabukuro's one of five and held eight of his nine service games. The loss was Shimabukuro's sixth in a row. Gaston has now won both their meetings on record, the first a straight-sets win in the 2023 US Open first round.
