·250·HardHubert Hurkacz defeated Martin Damm 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 — Chengdu Open 2026 R16.
Martin Damm and Hubert Hurkacz are level at 1–1 across 2 recorded meetings.
Hubert Hurkacz lost the opening set and won the next two to reach the quarterfinals at the Chengdu Open, beating Martin Damm in 1 hour 52 minutes. The fifth seed came in as the betting market's favorite at 68 percent, though Damm had won their only meeting on record, a 7-6(5) 6-4 win at the Montpellier Open in February. The opening set turned late. Damm broke for 4-3 in the seventh game, Hurkacz broke straight back in the eighth, and Damm broke again for 5-4 in a set he took 6-4. From the second set on, Hurkacz faced a single break point. He broke for 2-0 in the second game of the second set and won 94 percent of his first-serve points in it. Damm, a 22-year-old American left-hander ranked ATP No. 106 who beat Daniil Medvedev at the Winston-Salem Open last month, kept pace with 18 aces, five more than Hurkacz managed. The third set stayed on serve until the ninth game, when Hurkacz broke for 5-4 and served out the match. He converted three of his five break points; Damm took two of six, both in the set he won.
