Cristina Bucsa vs Panna Udvardy — R16 — Guadalajara Open

Sixth seed Cristina Bucsa is into the quarterfinals at the Guadalajara Open, the WTA 500 event on Mexican hard courts, beating Panna Udvardy 6-4, 6-4 in 90 minutes. The opening set changed hands three times in its first three games: Bucsa broke to start, Udvardy broke back immediately, and Bucsa broke again for 2-1. Bucsa settled it with another break in game 10. The second set turned on its only break, in game 9, which put her ahead 5-4; Udvardy then saved two match points before Bucsa closed it out. Udvardy, ranked WTA No. 83, had needed three sets to get past Lois Boisson in the previous round. Bucsa, WTA No. 44, now leads their meetings on record 2-0, having also won their August meeting at the Cincinnati Open. She has yet to drop a set in Guadalajara, following a round-of-32 win over Bianca Andreescu.
