Roman Andres Burruchaga carries Argentine sporting royalty in his surname — he is the son of former footballer and 1986 FIFA World Cup winner Jorge Burruchaga — but the Buenos Aires right-hander built his own ranking the slow way. There was no junior fast-track; he ground through ITF Futures and Challengers across South America and Europe, only breaking into the top 150 in April 2024. He made his ATP main-draw debut at the 2024 Córdoba Open as a qualifier and recorded his first tour win over Diego Schwartzman.

At the majors he's still finding footing, but the trend is up: after qualifying for his Grand Slam debut at Roland-Garros in 2024, he reached the second round at the French Open in 2026. As the No. 4 Argentine singles player, he sits in a deep national pecking order behind names like Sebastian Baez and Francisco Cerundolo — the next step is proving the clay-court grind travels to the bigger hard-court stages.
