Alex Michelsen led by two sets in the US Open quarterfinals, then lost a fifth-set tiebreak to Frances Tiafoe. Michelsen out-aced the 12th-ranked Tiafoe 21-10 and finished ahead on total points, 173-170, but converted only eight of 23 break points, one of eight in the fourth set. In the decider, he broke for 2-0 before Tiafoe broke back. The September 15 list has him at ATP No. 34, up from 46 on September 7.
