Peyton Stearns vs Clara Tauson — R64 — Cincinnati Open

Holding serve under siege decided it. Tauson faced 19 break points and saved 12, and she needed every one of them, as Peyton Stearns won more total points across the afternoon, 114 to 112, and lost anyway. The separation came in game 11 of the third, the 27th seed breaking for 6-5 after the American had twice led by a break in the set, in game 2 for 2-0 and again in game 4 for 3-1. Two hours and 45 minutes at the Cincinnati Open ended a four-match losing run dating to a Bad Homburg quarterfinal.
