Maria Sakkari vs Linda Fruhvirtova — R32 — Singapore Tennis Open

Seventh seed Maria Sakkari took 85 minutes to beat Linda Fruhvirtova 6-4, 6-1 in the Singapore Tennis Open round of 32, her first match since a second-round US Open loss nearly three weeks earlier. The opening set was the contested one. Fruhvirtova, ranked WTA No. 161, broke in game 1, and Sakkari broke back in game 8 for 4-4 before taking the set. Two more breaks followed early in the second, Sakkari leading 2-0 and then 4-0 and conceding only one game. Sakkari converted four of six break points; Fruhvirtova one of four. Fruhvirtova, playing her first match since late July and without a win in her last five on record, served six double faults and held four of eight service games. Sakkari has now won both their meetings on record, having taken the first in straight sets at the 2023 China Open.
