Maria Sakkari vs Nao Hibino — R16 — Singapore Tennis Open

Seventh seed Maria Sakkari is into the quarterfinals at the Singapore Tennis Open, the WTA 250 hard-court event, after an 85-minute win over Nao Hibino. Only the opening set gave Hibino a foothold. She broke back in game 7 after Sakkari had moved ahead 4-2, and across the match she saved seven of the 11 break points she faced. Sakkari, ranked WTA No. 33, converted two of seven chances in that set to take it 7-5, then broke in game 2 of the second for 2-0 and again in game 6 for 5-1. Sakkari held nine of her 10 service games and hit nine aces to Hibino's one, winning 85 percent of her first-serve points in the second set. Hibino, ranked WTA No. 199, had needed three sets to beat Kristina Mladenovic in the previous round. Sakkari, beaten in the second round of the US Open earlier this month, has now won both of their meetings on record.
