Sinja Kraus reached the third round of the China Open when 16th seed Anastasia Potapova retired 25 minutes into their all-Austrian second-round match, trailing 4-1 in the first set. Kraus broke in the opening game and again in game 5 for that lead, and she held both of her own service games. Potapova had received a first-round bye, so her tournament ended in her opening match.
