Jelena Ostapenko and Anastasia Zakharova: Jelena Ostapenko leads 2–0 across 2 recorded meetings.
Top-seeded Jelena Ostapenko opened the Korea Open in Seoul with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Anastasia Zakharova, ending a four-match losing streak. Ranked WTA No. 32, Ostapenko had not won a match since the Wimbledon second round on July 1. The first set was the untidy one. Zakharova, ranked WTA No. 109, broke in game 4 for 3-1, and Ostapenko — five double faults in the set — broke back immediately in game 5. Zakharova reached six break points across the set and won only that one. Ostapenko broke again in game 9 for 5-4, then served the set out. The second set was one-sided: Ostapenko broke in games 1, 3 and 7, and Zakharova double-faulted eight times. Ostapenko finished 5 of 8 on break points, Zakharova 1 of 9. Their only prior meeting on record, at February's Qatar Open, had gone three sets.
