·250·HardTaylah Preston defeated Jelena Ostapenko 6-4, 6-1 — Korea Open 2026 R16.
Jelena Ostapenko and Taylah Preston: Taylah Preston leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.
Taylah Preston, ranked WTA No. 92, beat top seed Jelena Ostapenko 6-4, 6-1 in 1 hour 17 minutes to reach the quarterfinals at the Korea Open, the WTA 250 in Seoul. The betting market had made Ostapenko a 70 percent favorite. Preston broke for 3-1 in the opening set, and when Ostapenko broke back in game 7 for 3-4, that was the only service game the Australian lost all match. She held seven of her eight and saved seven of the eight break points she faced. In the second set Preston broke in game 2 and again in game 4 for 4-0, finishing with four breaks from eight chances. Ostapenko double-faulted six times in that set and 10 across the match, and held only half of her eight service games. Ostapenko arrived in Seoul on a four-match losing run, the most recent a first-round US Open defeat to Tatjana Maria, and had won her first match in straight sets over Anastasia Zakharova. Preston, 20, began the season at WTA No. 205 and had needed three sets to pass Himeno Sakatsume in her opener. Ostapenko and Preston had no prior meetings on record.
