Top seed Daniil Medvedev opened his Hangzhou Open with a 7-6(6), 6-3 win over Valentin Royer in the round of 16, his first match of the week after a first-round bye. Serve decided it. Neither player was broken in an opening set that went to a tiebreak, and every one of Royer's chances came afterwards: all five of his break points arrived in the second set, and Medvedev saved them all.
