Ann Li is into the Wuhan Open quarterfinals after beating WTA No. 49 Janice Tjen of Indonesia in straight sets in the round of 16. In the previous round, Li beat Aryna Sabalenka in a deciding-set tiebreak. Li, WTA No. 30, controlled the opening set. She broke in the second and fourth games to lead 4-0 and won every point played on her first serve in that set. The second set was far tighter. Tjen won 83 percent of her first-serve points in the set. Li hit nine aces but also made 36 unforced errors, against Tjen's 19. Tjen created five break points in the set and converted none of them. Li then won the tiebreak 7-1 to close out the match in 1 hour, 38 minutes. Li finished with 11 aces and 36 winners to Tjen's 10.
