Alexandre Muller came through qualifying and beat Moise Kouame 6-4, 6-0 in the Chengdu Open round of 32. The opening set stayed on serve until Muller broke for 4-3 in game 7, and he took it with another break in game 10. Three more breaks followed in games 1, 3 and 5 of the second set. Kouame, a 17-year-old compatriot who has climbed from ATP No. 393 to No. 191 this season, was the bet365 market's narrow favorite at 53 percent. He had no break point until the second set and converted none of the three that came his way, saving a match point before the 74-minute contest ended.
