Federico Cina vs Alexandre Muller — R16 — Chengdu Open

Alexandre Muller reached the Chengdu Open quarterfinals with a 7-6(3), 6-1 win over Federico Cina, two sets that shared almost nothing. Neither man was broken in the first. Muller created six break points and converted none; Cina's only two chances of the match came there and also went unused. The tiebreak settled that set, and the second did not need one — Muller broke in game 4 for 3-1 and again in game 6 for 5-1. Cina's serve held up for a set. The 19-year-old Italian, ranked ATP No. 170, won 87 percent of his first-serve points in the opener and 36 percent in the second. Muller held all nine of his service games and won 71 percent of his second-serve points to Cina's 48. Muller, ATP No. 135, had lost his previous five matches on record before this week. He has now won both their meetings on record, the first in straight sets on clay at the Grand Prix Hassan II in March.
