Vit Kopriva vs Denis Shapovalov — R16 — Chengdu Open

Seventh seed Denis Shapovalov needed 63 minutes to get past Vit Kopriva 6-2, 6-3 in the Chengdu Open round of 16, reaching the quarterfinals without dropping a set this week. Shapovalov broke for 3-1 in game four of the opening set and again in the second game of the second. Kopriva, the Czech ranked ATP No. 71, had one break point all match and converted it in game five to get back to 2-3. Shapovalov broke once more in game eight for 5-3 and served out the match, with Kopriva saving one match point. Shapovalov lost none of his first-serve points in the opening set and won 23 of 25 for the match, holding eight of nine service games; all five of his double faults came in the second set. Kopriva's win over Jia Hu two days earlier had been his first since early August.
