Anna Kalinskaya vs Elena Gabriela Ruse — R16 — Bad Homburg Open

Ruse, ranked #105, knocked out world No. 20 Kalinskaya 7-5 6-2 in Bad Homburg, and the second serve was the lever. Ruse won 54% of her second-serve points to Kalinskaya's 27%, and on return she took 73% of the favourite's second-serve points. Set one swung late — Ruse broke in games 11 and 12 to flip a 5-5 deadlock — before three breaks in set two ran it out. Kalinskaya's eight double faults, six in the second set, kept handing it back.
