Tallon Griekspoor and Denis Shapovalov: Denis Shapovalov leads 2–0 across 2 recorded meetings.
Seventh seed Denis Shapovalov opened his Chengdu Open with a 6-4, 7-6(3) win over ATP No. 55 Tallon Griekspoor in the round of 32, and he did it while winning fewer points: Griekspoor took 65 of the 128 played. The opening set turned on three consecutive games. Shapovalov broke for 2-1, Griekspoor broke straight back for 2-2, and Shapovalov broke again in game five for 3-2, a lead he held to the end of the set. Neither man was broken in the second. Shapovalov hit nine of his 11 aces there and saved both break points Griekspoor created, then took the tiebreak. Shapovalov, ATP No. 50, was playing his first match since a third-round loss to Ben Shelton at the US Open on Sept. 5. He now leads 2-0 in meetings on record, having won their April meeting on clay at the Bavarian International Tennis Championships.
