Coco Gauff vs Camila Osorio — R64 — China Open

Coco Gauff opened her China Open campaign by beating Camila Osorio, a Colombian ranked 66th, in three sets to reach the round of 32. The No. 3 seed, champion here in 2024, had a first-round bye. Last month she reached the US Open semifinals, where she lost to Elena Rybakina. The betting market had Gauff as an 88 percent favorite. She broke for 4-2 in the first set, but Osorio broke back in game 9, and Gauff then won the tiebreak 7-4. Osorio won 80 percent of her first-serve points in the second set and leveled the match by breaking for 6-4. In the third set, Osorio won only 38 percent of her first-serve points, and Gauff converted three of six break points. Osorio broke back for 2-4, but Gauff broke again in the next game for 5-2. Osorio saved two match points before Gauff closed out the win after 2 hours, 18 minutes.
