Alexandra Eala defeated Leylah Fernandez 6-2, 7(7)-6(1) — Washington Open 2026 R16.
Leylah Fernandez and Alexandra Eala are level at 1–1 across 2 recorded meetings.
The second serve settled it. Alexandra Eala won 62 percent of her second-serve points to Leylah Fernandez's 37, so even the No. 7 seed's second-set push — breaks for 2-1 and 4-1 — dissolved as Eala broke for 3-5 in game 8 and 5-5 in game 10, then conceded a single tiebreak point. The 1-hour, 53-minute win — her first over Fernandez on record after an April loss in Stuttgart — books a Washington Open quarterfinal, a day after she outlasted Qinwen Zheng.
