Kamilla Rakhimova vs Katie Volynets — R16 — Korea Open

Katie Volynets reached the Korea Open quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-0 win over eighth seed Kamilla Rakhimova in Seoul. Rakhimova held once in eight service games and hit eight double faults, five of them in the opening set. In the first set, Volynets broke in game one, Rakhimova broke straight back, and Volynets then broke twice more for 5-2. Rakhimova broke again in game eight for 3-5 and did not win another game. Volynets broke three more times in the second set, the last for 6-0, and took seven of her eight return games across the match. Rakhimova, WTA No. 76, had won their only prior meeting on record, at the 2024 Washington Open. Volynets, one place behind at WTA No. 77, had lost her opening match at both the US Open and Cincinnati this summer. Both her wins this week came by the same 6-3, 6-0 score.
