·Masters·HardDayana Yastremska defeated Maja Chwalinska 6-3, 6-1 — China Open 2026 R64.
Dayana Yastremska and Maja Chwalinska: Dayana Yastremska leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.
Dayana Yastremska needed 59 minutes to beat 17th seed Maja Chwalinska and reach the third round of the China Open. The betting market had made Chwalinska a 59 percent favorite. Their rankings had moved in opposite directions this season. Yastremska, a Ukrainian who started 2026 at WTA No. 27, arrived in Beijing ranked 111th and on a four-match losing streak, which she snapped with a first-round win. Chwalinska, a Pole, began the year at No. 146, reached the French Open final and came in at No. 21. After a first-round bye, she was playing her first match since reaching the Singapore semifinals last week. Yastremska broke for 2-0, and Chwalinska broke straight back to trail 1-2. That was the only break point Chwalinska earned all match. Yastremska broke again for 4-2 and took the set, then opened the second with breaks in the first and third games for a 3-0 lead. Chwalinska has won 45 percent of her return points this season, but she won only two of the nine points played on Yastremska's second serve. Chwalinska is the highest-ranked player Yastremska has beaten this season. Her previous best by that measure was a Brisbane win in January over Leylah Fernandez, who was ranked 22nd at the time.
