Fabian Marozsan and Taro Daniel: Fabian Marozsan leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.
Fabian Marozsan lost the opening set and still came through in 2 hours 38 minutes against Taro Daniel, reaching the quarterfinals of the Hangzhou Open. The sixth seed, ranked ATP No. 59, was the betting market's favorite at 66 percent, though the margin stayed narrow — he won 115 of the 220 points played. Serve governed almost everything here: three breaks in 36 games. Daniel took the first, in game 3 of the opening set, and Marozsan broke back in game 6 before the set went to a tiebreak that Daniel won 7-2. Daniel did not earn another break point after that. Marozsan, meanwhile, created eight more and converted one, breaking in game 11 of the second set for 6-5 and closing it out 7-5. The third set produced no breaks at all. Daniel saved all four break points he faced in it — eight of 10 for the match — and then won a single point in the deciding tiebreak. Daniel, a 33-year-old Japanese player at ATP No. 193, hit nine aces without a double fault and held 16 of his 18 service games. He began the year ranked 446th and has been as high as 160th this season, and he beat Dane Sweeny in the previous round. For Marozsan it is a second win of the week after a first-round exit at the US Open.
