·250·HardTaro Daniel defeated Dane Sweeny 7(8)-6(6), 6-2 — Hangzhou Open 2026 R32.
Dane Sweeny and Taro Daniel are level at 1–1 across 2 recorded meetings.
Qualifier Taro Daniel, ranked ATP No. 193, beat Dane Sweeny 7-6(6), 6-2 in the round of 32 at the Hangzhou Open. The ranking pointed the other way — Sweeny came in at ATP No. 110 — but the betting market had made Daniel a 60% favorite. The opening set turned on consecutive games. Sweeny broke in game 11 to lead 6-5, then dropped his own serve in game 12 as Daniel levelled at 6-6, and Daniel took the tiebreak. That was the only break point Sweeny converted all match, from five. Sweeny's serve had kept him even to that point: 11 aces for the match, seven of them in the first set. In the second, Daniel broke in the opening game and again in game 5 for 4-1, and Sweeny did not create another break chance. Daniel won every point behind his first serve in that set and finished three of eight on break points across the 1-hour-50-minute match. Sweeny saved one match point. Sweeny had won their only prior meeting on record, at the 2023 Shanghai Masters, and arrived from a US Open run that included a win over Lorenzo Musetti in the round of 64. Daniel, 33, began this season ranked ATP No. 446 and has climbed as high as 160.
