Federico Cina vs Camilo Ugo Carabelli — R32 — Chengdu Open

Federico Cina, a 19-year-old Italian ranked ATP No. 170, won his opening match 6-3, 6-2 over Camilo Ugo Carabelli in the round of 32 at the Chengdu Open. Cina was in the hard-court ATP 250 draw as a lucky loser, beaten in qualifying and then handed a vacated main-draw place. He never lost serve, holding all nine of his service games. Cina broke for 2-0 in the opening set, then broke in the first game of the second and again in game 5 for 4-1. Ugo Carabelli, ranked ATP No. 75, saved four of the seven break points he faced but won none of his nine return games, against 38 percent for Cina. All three of his double faults came in the first set. The ranking gap did not make this an upset by the market's reckoning: WilliamHill had favored Cina at 60 percent before play. Both men arrived on losing runs. Cina had lost four in a row since beating Reilly Opelka at the French Open in May. For Ugo Carabelli it was a sixth straight loss on record, his most recent win having come at Croatia Open Umag in July. Cina next plays Alexandre Muller, ranked No. 135.
