·250·HardJenson Brooksby defeated Lorenzo Sonego 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 — Chengdu Open 2026 R16.
Jenson Brooksby and Lorenzo Sonego: Jenson Brooksby leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.
Jenson Brooksby, ranked ATP No. 77, came from a set down to beat Lorenzo Sonego in the Chengdu Open round of 16, reaching the quarterfinals of the hard-court ATP 250 after 2 hours 36 minutes. For a set the serving edge belonged to Sonego, ranked ATP No. 86, who won 75% of his first-serve points and answered Brooksby's break for 3-2 by breaking straight back in game 6. He took the opener 7-5 on two of five break chances. The second set stayed level deep: Brooksby broke for 6-5 and closed out the last two games to square the match. The third was the lopsided one. Brooksby broke in the opening game, broke again for 5-2, and Sonego did not earn a break point in the set. Brooksby won 86% of his first-serve points in that stretch against Sonego's 54%. Over the full match he converted four of six break points to Sonego's two of six — 67% against 33% — and held 14 of his 16 service games. The two had no prior meetings on record, and the betting market made Brooksby a narrow favorite at 55%. It is his second win of the week, after a straight-sets result over Sebastian Baez, and a useful one for a player who began the season at ATP No. 49 and was 9-12 on hard courts in 2026 before this win.
