Zeynep Sonmez vs Iryna Shymanovich — R32 — Guadalajara Open

Zeynep Sonmez spent 52 minutes on her Guadalajara Open opener, conceding two games to qualifier Iryna Shymanovich in the round of 32 of the WTA 500 event. Sonmez, ranked WTA No. 58, broke in the opening game and again in game 3. She converted all five break points she created and held all six of her service games. Shymanovich, ranked WTA No. 197, did manufacture chances — five break points, four of them in the second set — and converted none of them. She landed half her first serves, double-faulted seven times and held two of her seven service games. It is Sonmez's first hard-court win since she beat Daria Kasatkina in Cincinnati last month, a stretch that included a US Open first-round loss to Coco Gauff.
