Second seed Aryna Sabalenka needed 61 minutes to beat Mexico's Renata Zarazua in her first match at the China Open. It was also Sabalenka's first match since losing the US Open final to Elena Rybakina. Sabalenka broke for 2-0 and again for 5-1 in the first set. She went ahead in the second with a break for 2-1. Zarazua took three games in that set, but she never earned a break point in the match. Sabalenka won 22 of 25 points on her first serve and hit 11 aces. Zarazua, the WTA No. 94, reached the second round by beating Anna Bondar. That win ended a run of five straight losses. Sabalenka is now 34-4 on hard courts this season and moves into the third round.
