Alexandra Eala defeated Qinwen Zheng 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 — Washington Open 2026 R32.
Alexandra Eala and Qinwen Zheng: Alexandra Eala leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.
Conversion on return decided it. Alexandra Eala cashed 6 of 8 break points to Qinwen Zheng's 4 of 11, and Zheng's 14 aces never offset six dropped service games. Zheng, the 23-year-old wild card sitting at WTA No. 123 after opening the season at No. 24, banked the opener on 89 percent of first-serve points won, a figure that sank to 40 by the decider. Game 8 of the second turned it. Zheng had just broken for 4-3; Eala broke straight back for 4-4 and dropped one game the rest of the way. She closed in 2 hours, 26 minutes and carries a 12-7 hard-court 2026 — plus a Wimbledon win over Iga Swiatek earlier this month — into the Washington Open round of 16.
