Juan Manuel Cerundolo opened his Chengdu Open with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Chinese wild card Yi Zhou in the round of 32. The ATP No. 53 never lost serve, holding all nine of his service games and saving the three break points he faced, all of them in the first set. Cerundolo broke in the opening game of the match. Zhou, a 21-year-old ranked ATP No. 242 at match time, hit all five of his aces in that set and won 83 percent of his first-serve points there, but the figure fell to 61 percent in the second, where Cerundolo broke in game three for a 2-1 lead. Zhou saved one match point before Cerundolo broke again in game nine to finish it in 1 hour, 31 minutes. It was Cerundolo's first hard-court win since Winston-Salem in August, and it moved him to 7-6 on hard courts this season.
