Juan Manuel Cerundolo vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina — R16 — Chengdu Open

Second seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina reached the Chengdu Open quarterfinals by beating Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the round of 16, his first match of the week after a bye. The ATP No. 29 held all 10 of his service games and converted two of his four break points, both of them in game 9: one for 5-4 in the opening set, one for 5-4 in the second. Cerundolo, ranked ATP No. 53, had opened with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Yi Zhou and struck six aces without a double fault here. He created only one break point, in the second set, and Davidovich Fokina saved it. Davidovich Fokina has now taken all three of their meetings on record, including a straight-sets win in the Wimbledon first round in June. Alexandre Muller, ATP No. 135 at the time, is next.
