ATP No. 23 Jiri Lehecka recovered from a set down to beat No. 32 Ugo Humbert and reach the Japan Open quarterfinals. After losing the opening set, Lehecka did not face another break point. Humbert, the tournament's 2024 runner-up, had won their only previous meeting on record in Dubai last year, dropping three games. In the first set here, he saved all three break points he faced, then broke in the 12th game for 7-5. It was his only break of the match. Lehecka broke in the fifth game of each of the next two sets, both times for a 3-2 lead, and held every service game in both. Over the match, Humbert won four of 47 points against Lehecka's first serve. He won none in the third set, when Lehecka hit seven of his 15 aces.
