·250·HardHubert Hurkacz defeated Alexander Shevchenko 6-3, 7(12)-6(10) — Chengdu Open 2026 R32.
Alexander Shevchenko and Hubert Hurkacz: Hubert Hurkacz leads 4–0 across 4 recorded meetings.
Fifth seed Hubert Hurkacz began his Chengdu Open with a 6-3, 7-6(10) win over Alexander Shevchenko, an hour and 20 minutes in which he never faced a break point. Both breaks came in the first set, one of them in the opening game, with Hurkacz converting two of his four chances. After that it became a serving contest: he hit no aces in the first set and 13 in the second, held all 10 of his service games, and took the tiebreak 12-10. Shevchenko, ATP No. 93 and without a win since reaching the Gstaad semifinals in July, answered with 10 aces of his own in that second set. He landed only half his first serves across the match, though, and behind the second he won five of 18 points, 28 percent to Hurkacz's 68. Hurkacz, ATP No. 46, arrived 5-9 on hard courts in 2026, and the betting market still made him a 79% favorite. He had won all three prior meetings on record, all on hard.
