Blockx retires in US Open quarterfinal, up to ATP No. 27

Blockx's US Open run ended without a finish. The 21-year-old Belgian beat ATP No. 25 Francisco Cerundolo in four sets, breaking in game 12 to take both the third and fourth sets 7-5. Two days later he retired in the quarterfinal trailing 2-6, 5-7, 2-3. Karen Khachanov, ranked 49th, moved into the semifinals.
The ranking published September 15 lists Blockx at ATP No. 27, his best on record, up from No. 120 a year earlier.
