Down two sets to one and 3 for 14 on break points, Gea had been giving back every inch he took, the third set ending on a Zheng break in game 10 for 6-4. He answered by taking the ball earlier and coming forward. Breaking in the decider's opening game for 1-0 and again in game 7 for 5-2, the 21-year-old finished 33 of 46 at net and hit 11 winners against four unforced errors in the fifth, a set in which Zheng never earned a break point. Zheng converted six of his 10 chances on return to Gea's seven from 24, saved one match point, and lost anyway after three hours and 53 minutes. The eighth straight win since the Los Cabos title carries him into the deepest run of his career at a major.
