Sofia Kenin defeated Venus Williams 6-2, 7(8)-6(6) — US Open 2026 R128.
Venus Williams and Sofia Kenin: Sofia Kenin leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.
The return games separated them. Kenin broke four times from nine chances while Williams held only 6 of 10, and a 21-6 second-set edge in winners carried the tiebreak even after the wild card broke back in game 8 for 4-4 and saved a match point. Kenin, who had won two of her last six coming in and has no prior meetings with Williams on record, gets Pegula (No. 3) next.
