Simona Waltert and Mayar Sherif: Mayar Sherif leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.
Sherif's comeback ran on a first serve that improved by the set. After winning 52 percent of first-serve points to Simona Waltert's 59 in a dropped opener, Mayar Sherif ran it to 65-52 in the second set and 73-62 in the third. Little else separated them. The 25-year-old Swiss cashed 5 of 8 break points to the Egyptian's 5 of 12 and still finished a point back, 113-112. The turn came in games 9 and 10 of the second set, back-to-back Sherif breaks for 5-4 and 6-4, before a game-5 break-back in the decider erased a 2-0 hole. Waltert saved one match point; the second landed 3 hours, 17 minutes in, sending the No. 6 seed out of the MSC Hamburg Ladies Open.
