Maria Timofeeva reached the second round of the China Open with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Darja Vidmanova, losing her serve only once in 84 minutes. Vidmanova, a Czech who reached the Memphis Classic final in August, came in at WTA No. 85, two places above Timofeeva. Vidmanova broke to open the second set, but Timofeeva broke straight back and again in the fourth game for 3-1. She saved the other three break points she faced. Timofeeva landed 71 percent of her first serves and won 78 percent of those points. Vidmanova landed 47 percent, so 27 of her 51 service points were played on a second serve.
