Thiago Agustin Tirante vs Tommy Paul — R64 — Madrid Open

Thiago Agustin Tirante, ranked #75, knocked out the #18 Tommy Paul 7-5, 6-4 in Madrid, and the second serve was the lever. Tirante won 59% of his second-serve points (13 of 22) to Paul's 40% (10 of 25), and forced the error count to do the rest — Paul piled up 31 unforced to Tirante's 16. The Argentine, in his first clay meeting with Paul, leveled their head-to-head at 1-1 without facing the pressure his own backhand kept applying.
