Maria Timofeeva vs Xiyu Wang — R128 — Cincinnati Open

Nine games, nine games to the qualifier: Timofeeva never held serve before retiring, and the return numbers behind it were absolute, with Xiyu Wang converting four of nine break points while facing seven and saving all seven. The breaks came early and often — game 2 for 2-0 in the opener, again in game 4 for 4-0 — and after 44 minutes of a first meeting between the two on record, Wang moves through the Cincinnati opening round with 67 percent of the total points.
