Learner Tien vs Frances Tiafoe — R32 — Cincinnati Open

Game 7 of the third settled a match that had refused to separate: Frances Tiafoe broke through for 4-3 and held the rest of the way, finishing 4 of 5 on break points while Learner Tien piled up six aces in that final set and nothing else. Two hours and nine minutes came down to three points, 89 to 86. Tiafoe took the initiative Tien wouldn't, winning 11 of 17 at net. The 17th seed also answers the Delray Beach quarterfinal Tien edged in February, and moves ahead in a series that had been level on record.
