Elina Svitolina and Solana Sierra: Elina Svitolina leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.
One ace against six double faults is not the serving line of a 45-minute win, and it did not matter: Svitolina lost two first-serve points all match, 24 of 26 won, and held all eight times. Sierra, meeting her for the first time with no prior meetings on record, managed two of 26 first-serve return points and 25 unforced errors against five winners, broken in game 2 for 2-0 and again in game 4 for 4-0. The US Open opener leaves the ninth seed 26-8 on hard this season.
