·500·HardPeyton Stearns defeated Sloane Stephens 7(8)-6(6), 6-4 — Guadalajara Open 2026 Quarterfinal.
Peyton Stearns and Sloane Stephens: Peyton Stearns leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.
Peyton Stearns is into the Guadalajara Open semifinals, and the two-set quarterfinal was closer than that suggests: she won 77 of the 153 points, Sloane Stephens 76. Four of the first seven games in the opening set went against serve, Stephens breaking in games 3 and 7 and Stearns in games 4 and 6. Stearns then took the set in a tiebreak, 7-6(6). Stephens had won three tiebreaks earlier in the week, two of them in a straight-sets win over Janice Tjen. Stephens broke again for 2-0 in the second set but lost her serve in games 7 and 9, and Stearns served out the match from 5-4. On break points Stephens was the more efficient, converting three of five to Stearns's four of 11, though she had fewer than half as many chances. At 33 and ranked WTA No. 169, up from No. 1098 at the start of the season, Stephens exits in the quarterfinals. Stearns has not lost a set in three matches at the event.
